Rutheo Designs helps Vashon Island clients shape outdoor spaces around how they live, grow food, host friends, and care for a garden over time. We begin with the site itself and build a plan that can move from concept to installation and practical ongoing stewardship.

King County provides local government services for Vashon-Maury Island, which is part of the Central Puget Sound watershed. County shoreline data tracks buildings in coastal high-hazard and sea-level-rise risk areas, including a 100-foot landward band from the sea-level-rise risk area. Nearby, the Maury Island Natural Area includes madrone forest and nearly a mile of undeveloped Puget Sound shoreline. These are island-scale conditions, not a classification of any individual site; a project should start with its own access, slope, drainage, vegetation, and applicable review requirements.

Chayton is drawn to Rutheo Designs because of the company’s focus on organic practices, native plants, and low-emission equipment. One of his favorite parts of the job is helping create outdoor spaces that clients truly enjoy and feel proud of. He's always had a strong connection to nature and believes outdoor spaces should feel inviting, natural, and accessible to the people who use them.

Rutheo Designs acknowledges that we live and work on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish and Duwamish tribes, who have stewarded these ecosystems since time immemorial. We could not call this city home without the Salish People and the Duwamish Tribe.

Using native and edible plants, minimizing our carbon footprint, and paying Real Rent to the Duwamish Tribal Nation are all ways we uphold our commitment.
