Seattle Public Utilities describes the High Point Natural Drainage System as a large West Seattle project connected to Longfellow Creek. The system uses swales, landscaped ponds, and small wetland ponds to capture, filter, and hold stormwater. Across Seattle, green stormwater infrastructure is intended to collect, slow, and treat rainwater to help reduce flooding, sewer overflows, and pollution, while the City’s Stormwater Code applies to development and redevelopment. These public examples do not prescribe a solution for every yard, but they make drainage, slope, existing vegetation, and circulation worth evaluating together.

Chayton is part of our maintenance and stewardship team and enjoys being able to see the difference his work makes in each landscape over time. Chayton is drawn to Rutheo Designs because of the company’s focus on organic practices, native plants, and low-emission equipment. One of his favorite parts of the job is helping create outdoor spaces that clients truly enjoy and feel proud of. He's always had a strong connection to nature and believes outdoor spaces should feel inviting, natural, and accessible to the people who use them.
